Rummage Sale

Rummage Sales are the primary source of ways and means for the Women’s Auxiliary.  They are held twice a year – in October and April.  Rummage is collected year-round on Sunday mornings and by appointment with the church office.  Almost anything donated will find a buyer – antiques, collectibles, clothing, furniture, household items, jewelry, garage and garden items, plants, small appliances, books and magazines, CD’s and DVD’s, toys, sewing and craft materials, office and medical supplies, sports equipment, and baked goods.  The Sigma Chi chapter from Cal Poly Pomona helps with setting up for the sale and putting things away when the sale is over.  Women from Crossroads assist during the week getting things ready for the sale.  During sorting between sales, any clean but unsaleable towels, rugs or blankets are donated to the Animal Shelter and many coats, jackets, and other items of clothing are donated to non-profits in the area. All other unsold items are donated to local thrift stores.  The Rummage sales provide opportunities for people in the community and all around the area to obtain needed items at very reasonable prices.

The proceeds from the Rummage Sales help to support the church operations budget, the youth and music programs, and refurbishing and maintaining the church building and facilities.  It also supports our Christian Outreach which includes donations to local and international programs. Local donations this year went to Inland Valley Hope Partners (Beta Food Center), Foothill Family Shelter (for homeless families), House of Ruth (domestic violence shelter), Pomona Police Dept. Crime Prevention (youth camp out), Children of the Night (child trafficking prevention), Mercy House (supportive housing services), Crossroads (rehabilitation housing for women), Hand in Hand (food and Christmas presents for local low-income families), Prison Library Project, and Inland Hospice Association.  International donations this year went to Pan American Institute (school in Tijuana), Love Worth Sharing in Haiti, Happy Life Children’s Home (orphanage in Kenya), Pilgrims’ Presence in Kenya, Fishers of Men in Mexico, and Mission Mazuahua in Mexico.  Women’s Auxiliary also provides financial support for a group of students from the Pan American Institute to our Church Camp at Cedar Lake near Big Bear for a week each summer.  A reserve to meet emergency needs is also maintained.

Friendship Guild & Patience Guild

Two guilds of the Women’s Auxiliary, the Friendship Guild and the Patience Guild, provide opportunities to enjoy friendship and common interests and offer support to the Auxiliary and the Church.  Meetings are held once a month, October through May at various locations.  Women are invited to visit either or both guilds, and to join for the enjoyment found in the fellowship of a smaller group.  Friendship Guild meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday and Patience Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday.

Pilgrim Memorial Library

Another division of Women’s Auxiliary is the Pilgrim Memorial Library.  We have a large selection of books covering a wide range of reader interests that is managed by a part-time librarian.  The library regularly purchases books, and many books are on sale.  Books on tape are also available. The library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It’s open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The library is closed Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sanctuary Flowers

Women’s Auxiliary is responsible for ordering the beautiful fresh flower arrangements that beautify the sanctuary every Sunday and the boutonnieres for the ushers.  They also arrange for poinsettias at Christmas and lilies and azaleas for Easter.  Please contact the office if you would like to sponsor flowers for the sanctuary.
